What We Do
We provide psychotherapy for people living with chronic pain. Our work is grounded in the understanding that pain is influenced by biological, psychological, and social factors.
We help clients understand these influences, identify what can be changed, and develop greater acceptance of what cannot—so energy can be directed toward what matters most.
OUR CLINICAL APPROACH
We take a short-term, evidence-based, solution oriented approach.
Our goal is to educate on the science of pain and support people as they learn to understand and manage their own chronic pain and the suffering that accompanies it.
We use a tailored combination of these evidence based modalities:
-
PNE is a medically recognised form of treatment focused on how pain is generated and processed by the brain and nervous system.
Through this approach, we explore why pain can persist, how biological, psychological and social factors can amplify the experience of pain, and how that response can be reduced—even in the presence of ongoing conditions.
-
CBT helps us understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. In the context of chronic pain, it allows us to identify unhelpful patterns—like catastrophising or fear-based thinking—and gently shift them.
This approach can reduce distress, improve coping, and create meaningful changes in how pain is experienced day to day.
-
ACT focuses on helping you live a full, meaningful life—even in the presence of pain. Rather than trying to eliminate discomfort, we build skills like acceptance, psychological flexibility, and values-based action.
This approach helps you reconnect with what matters most, while loosening the grip pain can have on your life.
-
PRT is based on the science that many forms of chronic pain are driven by the brain and nervous system, not ongoing tissue damage.
Through this approach, we work to retrain the brain’s interpretation of pain signals, helping to reduce fear and shift the system out of a protective state. This can lead to real and lasting reductions in pain.
-
MI is a collaborative, non-judgmental approach that helps you explore your own motivations for change. It’s especially useful when you feel stuck, ambivalent, or unsure about next steps.
Together, we clarify your goals and strengthen your confidence in moving toward them—at your own pace.
-
Narrative Therapy helps you explore the stories you’ve come to hold about yourself, your body, and your pain. Often, chronic pain becomes intertwined with identities like “broken,” “limited,” or “stuck.”
Together, we gently separate you from the problem and make space for alternative, more empowering narratives. This can shift how you relate to your pain and open up new possibilities for how you live your life.m description
-
EAET is based on the understanding that chronic pain can be influenced by unprocessed emotions and stress held in the body.
This approach helps you safely identify, experience, and express emotions—like anger, grief, or hurt—that may be contributing to nervous system overload. By processing these emotions, the body can shift out of a protective pain response, often leading to meaningful reductions in symptoms.
